Many mid-size firms have experienced the pain of winning a large piece of litigation work only to discover that they need in invest a heap of time and money in setting up a litigation support system to handle the documents involved.
While most large firms have in house expertise and systems set up to handle large litigation matters, due diligences or other document heavy work, smaller firms have difficulty justifying the investment in infrastructure that may only be used once a year.
Potter Farrelly & Associates are targeting this market by providing a litigation support system through an ASP "software as a service" model. They've chosen CaseLogistix as their system, which while relatively unknown in Australia was awarded London's Citytech magazine's "Best Litigation Support Vendor of the Year (Small)" award.
CaseLogistix touts that it can provide "EDD, transcript management, a sophisticated publishing tool, drag and drop auto-coding, and Unicode compliance" in addition to search and the ability to drag and drop PST files and extract emails and attachments.
It will be interesting to see how the model takes off in the local market. Potter Farrelly are planning on conducting seminars in July/August so we'll keep you posted.
