Dundas and Wilson, a largish UK firm (about 320 fee earners, £53M revenue) has announced that it will be moving to Microsoft's Dynamics CRM system for its customer relationship management.
The move is an interesting one and will re-ignite speculation that the legal IT world will eventually move away from legal specific solutions and begin to utilise generic finance, ERP and CRM software.
Microsoft's Dynamics range consists of the current incarnation of a number of products that Microsoft purchased over the last few years. The others are:
- Microsoft Dynamics AX (formerly Axapta)
- Microsoft Dynamics GP (formerly Great Plains)
- Microsoft Dynamics NAV (formerly Navision)
- Microsoft Dynamics SL (formerly Solomon)
Since their acquisition Microsoft have struggled to gain traction in the ERP/CRM/Finance market, but if they have now managed to effectively integrate the products they may pose competition in the legal world.
