Law firms have traditionally been reluctant to consider Google's magic box due to its lack of integration with their enterprise DMS systems and lack of observance of document security. Google has seemingly seen the light in this area and announced free native connectors for "EMC’s Documentum, IBM’s FileNet, Open Text’s LiveLink and Microsoft’s SharePoint."
There no word yet on a link for Interwoven's Worksite, however Google have released an open sourced framework for building these connectors. It shouldn't be too long before some enterprising company or law firm builds connectors for Worksite, Interaction and other common applications. In a perfect world some firm may create a connector and release it back into the wild also as open source. But we're talking about law firms here.
On the security side version 5.0 includes support for support for Windows Integrated Authentication (WIA) which should assist with some of the legal market's concerns.
While not very cheap (the Search Appliance starts at US$30,000 for indexing up to 500,000 documents) there's little doubt that Google's algorithm scales well, and as more connectors become available it could well be a viable alternative to Fast, Recommind and Vivisimo.
