In a sad day for the innovative provision of legal services, eCommLegal, the Commonwealth Bank's online law firm has closed up shop. The firm appeared to have a near perfect business model, automating the processes surrounding high volume conveyancing and milking the stream of work arising from referrals from the bank.
The site (www.ecomlegal.com.au) now simply states: "We regret to inform you that the Commonwealth Bank has decided to close eCommLegal Pty Ltd.".
We hope that the bank's move doesn't discourage other outfits from attempting to innovate in the legal arena.
