Although it's hard to work out which bits of Minters the study refers to (we understand that they don't have a nationally integrated system), it looks like the impetus was GroupWise's inability to play nicely with their Interwoven Worksite document management system and other third party applications.
Taking the big bang approach, they have moved to Exchange 2003, centralised databases on a clustered Microsoft SQL Server 2005 setup, installed email archiving, and to top it off purchased an EMC disk array.
What we're truly amazed at is that they didn't make the jump earlier, particularly as they've been running Worksite for sometime.
