Just to make it completely clear, the Hummingbird DM product is now known as:
Livelink ECM - eDOCS DM
Open Text’s document management product on the other hand will be known by the clearly distinguishable moniker:
Livelink ECM - Document Management
We’re sure that no one will be confused by the new naming scheme, although it’s possible that Open Text don’t see both products being round for very long.
In regard to the future of the Hummingbird product, Open Text’s President and CEO, John Shackleton has issued a very fluffy letter, advising Hummingbird legal clients that the product will still be supported, although not giving a great deal of detail on its future.
It seems unlikely that Open Text will continue to develop two competing document management products, so it will be interesting to see which one becomes the company flagship. More information on their product roadmap will apparently be made available in November at the “LiveLinkUp Phoenix global user conference” in Phoenix, Arizona.
In the mean time, Open Text have announced their plans to integrate the Reddot web content management product with their current Open Text suite.
