After almost two years of speculation, HP have bitten the bullet and purchased an enterprise document management product in the form of Australian company Tower. After IBM's acquisition of FileNet and EMC's purchase of Documentum rumours have been rife in the market that HP would purchase Interwoven or Open Text, but it appears that HP have opted for a smaller, more niche product.

Tower, through their Trim product have developed a global business specialising mainly in government records management systems. The impact upon the non-government market should be relatively minimal as most private sector firms appear to be moving across to Interwoven's Worksite or looking at flavours of Microsoft's Sharepoint.
