The move seems an ideal way to make inroads into the small to medium firm market who would be reluctant to invest in the software due to the relatively high initial setup cost and ongoing IT maintenance. The monthly subscription model provides a much more easily calculated cost of ownership for firms and a steady income stream for Winscribe.
The hosted system also means that lawyers can access dictation from any location with an internet connection and provides automatic updates of new product releases.
As an added bonus, Winscribe can now offer firms a free taste of the software without requiring any local server installations. Sounds like a very clever move and it will be interesting to see how long it takes other legal software vendors to follow suit.
